Drexel Square 1955 The Hyde Park Chamber of Commerce, serves the business community in Hyde Park. We are your voice in the Chicago business community.

Incorporated in 1939, we now have over 300 members, and are one of the largest neighborhood Chambers in the Metropolitan area. In recent years, we have worked to prevent the passage of the proposed lease tax, and in concert with other interests, were successful in avoiding this tremendous burden to business.

Our primary purpose is to help build a strong, viable, and attractive business community in Hyde Park. We do everything possible to make the physical appearance of our neighborhood more attractive. In cooperation with the Garden Fair Committee, we maintain and expand the program of planters on the business streets, with summer flowers and winter greens. We were the sponsoring agency for the Streetscape Program, which saw major repair and repaving of sidewalks and curbs on 53rd Street and on the 55th Street median.

We sponsored and partially financed, under a city grant, the creation and installation of the first two outdoor sculptures in a Chicago neighborhood business area. This was done under the Sidewalk Amenities Program of the City.

We are members of the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, the Illinois State Chamber of Commerce, and the Illinois Retail Merchant's Association. From these, we can bring you the latest information on legislation concerning business, on issues where your representatives need your opinions, on ways to make your business more profitable.

We receive a Technical Assistance Grant from the Department of Planning and Development, City of Chicago, and participate in the C.A.R.E. (Commercial Revitalization Effort) Program sponsored by the City of Chicago.

Each year we publish 30,000 classified directories of our members which reach far beyond Hyde Park. We do newspaper promotions, have monthly membership meetings, quarterly "Business to Business" networking sessions, and are constantly working to enhance our present market and to attract new customers to Hyde Park for shopping and service.
